Sierra Leone

According to survey conducted by the United Nations, Sierra Leone is currently the poorest country and averaging a life expectancy of only 37 years. 9 years of cruel civil war ended only a few years ago and have driven the once prosperous West African country into a state of economic chaos. The mental effects of the war are even worse than the economic ones. More than half of the approx. 5 million inhabitants of the country became refugees. More than 50,000 people were killed, some of them in the most cruel way.

In the capital Freetown Inter-Mission supports a Children’s Home for war orphans, a rehabilitation project for war-traumatized children and a Christian school. Thus, practical help is provided for close to 200 children so that they can not only survive but become hopeful again, be healed, equipped and encouraged for the future.
